The Road Ahead

“It’s a poor sort of memory that only works backward.”
Lewis Carroll, Through the Looking Glass

In the Wonderland-like setting of the Franklinton Arts District, surrounded by inspired wall murals and the company of extraordinary friends and supporters, Finance Fund celebrated our 25th anniversary in May 2012 by looking forward.

The outpouring of support was indeed gratifying as we honored Community Champions Radhika Reddy of Ariel Ventures and the Adams Brown Community Action Program. The celebration continued by highlighting the success of several Finance Fund clients aptly demonstrating how great ideas can grow into great assets for their communities (www.financefund.org).

Carroll also wrote, “If you don’t know where you are going, any road will take you there.”

Our road forward is filled with many challenges including shrinking public funding in the face of growing community needs. As state and federal leaders debate the merits of continuing the current form of New Market Tax Credits, Finance Fund’s path to continued success is clear. We are moving on several key initiatives to link our mission with monetary resources – actively seeking to expand funding for our work through private sources of capital such as donors, corporations and foundations.

We see a great need to fund rural and urban community projects throughout Ohio such as inner city health care centers and small business growth in Appalachia. There is no end to worthy projects. The challenge is to uncover the funding sources that we can leverage to bring projects to life – projects that can change systems, create jobs, improve lives and rebuild communities.

Truly our opportunity is now. Let’s take the road ahead together. Send me an
